The SWCD requests that you RSVP by Friday, September 20th to be sure enough food is available for lunch, by calling the Montgomery County SWCD at 217-532-3361 Ext. 3.
The Presentations following lunch will be given by Abigail Peterson with the Soil Heath Partnership, and David Kleinschmidt with Progressive Agronomy Consulting Services, LLC.
Peterson is a field manager covering Southern Illinois. Soil Health Partnership's ultimate goal is to measure and communicate the economic and environmental benefits of different soil management strategies, and provide a set of regionally specific, data-driven recommendations that farmers can use to improve the productivity and stainability of their farms.
Kleinschmidt started his own business and began working with cover crop in 2012. About three years of continuous no-till and cover crops, the soils and crops started to act differently. They were more resilient, capturing and storing more soil moisture and didn't require nearly as much fertilizer or chemical inputs. Kleinschmidt focuses primarily on soil health by implementing cover crops, no-till and grazing practices to increase farm profitability efficiency and success. During his presentation, Kleinschmidt will speak about diversity, using species for the season, and building soil carbon to fix the broken water cycle.
If your interested in this event be sure to RSVP by Friday, September 20th, by calling the Montgomery County SWCD at 217-532-3361 Ext. 3.
