Storm Damage in Girard

Clean up and electric service restoration continies in Girard following Tuesday evening‘s strong storms.

Macoupin County Emergency Mangagement Coordinator Jim Pithcford says as of Wednesday morning 17 buildings in Girard were damaged and 4 homes were destroyed. In addition, 30 power poles were snapped or blown down.

Pitchford also noted that one person sustained minor injuries associated with the storm. The incident occured as a woman was attempting to seek shelter and struck her head.

The National Weather Service is surveying the damage in Girard in order to determine if the damage was an actual tornado or strong straight line winds.
