Litchfield Teachers and School Board Hope to Avoid Strike with Final Scheduled Meeting

Mon, 07 Jan 2013 16:34:47 CST
The final meeting between the teachers and the Board of Education for the Litchfield School District has been set for Monday, January 7th at 7pm. Approximately 80 teachers were out walking door to door discussing the biggest issues still on the table. The goal among the teachers is for a one year agreement to be reached in principle, with hopes of using the momentum to create a multi-year deal. Ideally, the teachers would like to obtain a multi-year contract agreement, but at this stage in the negotiations, they find themselves satisfied with a one year deal.

There hasn't been a strike in the Litchfield School District since 1980, and the two sides will hope to continue that streak Monday evening. If the two do not reach an agreement, then a strike will commence on Wednesday, January 9th as no further meetings have been scheduled.
