Mt. Olive Teachers Strike

Thu, 05 Dec 2013 13:35:08 CST
Teachers in the Mt. Olive School District have voted to strike.

The vote came during a meeting of the Mt. Olive Education Association Wednesday night and while a date has not been set at this time, the strike could begin Friday.

Union President, Marcia Schulte, said "We all had hoped it would not come to this, but the Board of Education‘s demands for unnecessary ‘take backs‘ has forced teachers to strike."

Mt. Olive teachers have worked since the beginning of the school year in August under an expired contract. The sticking points are the employer‘s demand that the teachers agree to eliminate a contractual retirement incentive and agree to a two-tier salary schedule. Also, some salary and insurance issues remain unsettled.
