During last week's school board meeting, Nokomis School Superintendent Scott Doerr spoke about the financial state of the district.
Dr. Doerr said that the state has paid the district for free and reduced lunch bills, and an early childhood payment; However, the district is still owed $132,482.72 in a variety of mandated categoricals. While the General State Aid is said to be up to date, categorical payments were missed for the first quarter. Since those payments were not made, the state owes the District $94,631 for Fiscal Year 18, for a grant total of $227,114.22.
Doerr said the district's expenditures are high due to the close-out of construction costs they have paid. He added that the district has yet to receive any updates from the Illinois State Board of Education regarding new financial numbers as a result of the new school funding reform bill passed in late August.
The next Nokomis School Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the district unit office.
