Audubon Society Fundraising for Local Stewards
Mon, 06 Aug 2018 09:24:10 CDT
The Illinois Audubon Society, in association with the Hickory Hills Chapter, has announced a fundraising campaign to support the efforts of local volunteer stewards in the care and maintenance of Bremer Sanctuary in Hillsboro.
The volunteer stewards of the sanctuary have accepted the responsibility entrusted to them since 1977. In the past year, Bremer Stewards and local volunteers have removed five acres of invasive Japanese honeysuckle and have begun to reestablish a hiking trail on the property across Cress Creek. The Education Chair has developed, coordinated and conducted four family-centered workshops for local children.
Stewards also regularly plan and conduct public outings throughout the year beginning on New Year's Day and extending through early winter.
