There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 18, 2019. Statewide the average temperature was 75 degrees, 1 degree above normal. Precipitation averaged 1 1/2 inches, or 0.66 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 11 percent very short, 40 percent short, 47 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 9 percent very short, 33 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Corn silking was at 96 percent. Corn in dough was at 55 percent, compared to 93 percent last year, and 88 percent for the 5-year average. Corn dented is at 12 percent, compared to 60 percent last year, and the 5 year average of 43 percent. Corn condition was rated at 4 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 37 percent fair, and 5 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming are at 89 percent. Soybeans setting pods were at 67 percent, compared to 94 percent last year and the 5 year average of 88 percent. Soybean condition was rated as 5 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 34 precent fair, and 6 precent excellent.
