Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District Fall Fish Sale

The Montgomery County Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting orders for the 2021 Fall Fish Sale. The sale is planned for Thursday, October 21 at 8:00 a.m. and pre-orders are due on October 10th.

Many species of live fish for pond stocking will be available, as well as Fathead Minnows and Grass Carp for pond maintenance.

Electronics Recycling Drive in Litchfield

BLH Computers will be hosting their annual electronics recycling drive on  Saturday, October 23rd from 9 am to noon at the former Litchfield Recycling location, at the corner of Ryder & Illinois 

Items that will be accepted: Answering Machines, Battery Backups and Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS), Camcorders, Cameras Cellular/Mobile Phones, Christmas tree lights, Computer Peripherals (keyboards, mice, etc.), Desktop Computers, DVD/CD Players, Fax Machines, Ink Cartridges, Laptops, Mail-room Equipment, Networking Equipment and Cables, Pagers, Point of Sale Equipment, Power and Accessory Cables, Power Tools (including batteries) Printers (for large office printers please contact your local store) Projectors, Radios, Receivers, Satellite and Cable Equipment, Speakers, Smart Phones, Surge Suppressors and Power Strips, Tablets, Telephones (including PBX equipment) Toner. VCRs, Video Game Consoles. Walkie-talkies Recycling with a fee.

Certain items we can recycle but have a fee in order to do so. These items include:

-Broken TV’s in a bag is double their charge

-CRT & LCD Monitors -$10 

-All Televisions - $20

-Projection TV’s - $40

-Console TV’s = $40

Gillespie Cemetery & Public Library Looking for volunteers

The Gillespie Cemetery & Public Library are looking for volunteers to lay brick in the Gilespie Cemetery on Saturday morning October 16th & 23rd starting at 9 each morning. Lewis & Clark eWaste Drive

Lewis & Clark Community College will be holding an eWaste drive on Saturday & Sunday, October 29 & 30 from 9 am to noon both days, in the Tolle Lane parking lot across from the Godfrey Campus. 

Items being accepted include computers, printers, fax machines, scanners, cable & satellite receivers, video game consoles, telecommunication items, phones, cell phones, clocks, VCR's stereos, audio/video equipment, holiday lights, blenders, toasters, irons, air conditioners, refrigerators humidifiers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, furnaces, medical & diagnostic equipment, industrial equipment & machinery, lawnmowers and miscellaneous outdoor equipment, car batteries, rechargeable batteries, and PCB's including capacitors, transformers, and ballast. 

Items not accepted include radioactive materials, alkaline batteries, light bulbs, smoke detectors, hazardous waste like oil, pesticides, or paint, anything that's not electronic, general household trash, explosives, DVD's and CD's, cassette tapes, and VHS tapes. 

Some items will cost a fee to recycle, and they include CRT, Projection, Plazma, flat screen and console TV's $5-$35 depending on size. LCD, LED, CRT monitors $5-$20 depending on size, and dehumidifiers and refrigerators $5-$10 depending on size. 

COVID-19 protocols will be in place for this event including wearing masks and social distancing. All items to be recycled MUST be in the trunk or truck bed of your vehicle, as staff and volunteers at the event will unload the items for you. You will not be allowed to exit the vehicle, and you will be required to wear a mask when you interact with the volunteers unloading your items.

The Gillespie Lions Club will have a costume judging contest for 3 age groups 0-5, 6-10, and 11-16 on Sat. Oct. 30th at the Gillespie Civic Center. Doors will open at 5:15 pm and the judging will begin at 5:30 pm, and they hope to be done in time for the kids to trick or treat which begins at 6:00 pm.

The New Douglas Volunteer Fire Department will be holding their 16th annual Pancake, Sausage & more breakfast on Sunday, November 6th from 7 am to 1 pm, at the New Douglas Fire House. The breakfast is curbside pickup only, with the lineup beginning on First Street traveling to East Allen Street. All meals are $10 per person, and Veterans past and present are free.
