Bethalto Marine Dies From Injuries Suffered In Afghanistan

(Bethalto)--A Marine from Bethalto has died from injuries suffered while fighting in Afghanistan earlier this month. 23 year old Lance Corporal Kenny Corzine suffered serious arm injuries, and lost both of his legs after being hit by an improvised explosive device on December 5th. The incident happened while he was on walking patrol.

Corzine was receiving treatment at a hospital in Germany where he passed away on Christmas Eve. He is part of a large military family with two other members currently enlisted in the Marines and one in the Army.

Carlinville Business Robbed

Carlinville police are investigating a reported robbery of the Family Video Store on North Broad Street.

According to Carlinville Police Chief David Haley, at 10:26pm on Wednesday, an employee of the Family Video store called police to report the robbery.

The assailant was described as a male subject about 5'6" to 5'9" tall wearing dark blue jeans, a black hoddie and a black ski mask.

The suspect reportedly demanded money and left with an undeteremined amount of cash.

Charges Filed In The Death Of A Ramsey Man

(Hillsboro)--Charges have been filed in Monday's shooting death of a Ramsey man. The Montgomery County States Attorney's Office announced that 19 year old Cody Johnston of Shelbyville was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, and unlawful restraint in connection to the death of 50 year old John Russell of Ramsey.

Johnston is being held in the Montgomery County Jail with bond set at 750 thousand dollars. An investigation in the case in ongoing.

Schutt Sports To Sell Assets To Kranos Corporation

(Litchfield)--Schutt Sports will sell most of its assets to Delaware based Kranos Intermediate Holding Corporation for over thirty three million dollars. According to US Bankruptcy Judge Kevin Carey, the sale would be approved once final language has been drafted.

An auction was held last week to sell Schutt's assets. Kranos has agreed to keep around four hundred employees, and retain Schutt Sports employees in Illinois for at least twelve months, and workers in Pennsylvania for at least three months.

State Police Investigating The Death Of A Ramsey Man

(Ramsey)--Illinois State Police says they have a person of interest in custody in the shooting death of a Ramsey man. Investigators say the body of 50 year old John Russell was found Monday by Sheriff's Deputies in front of his home. State Police say the person of interest in currently jailed in Shelby County on charges unrelated to Russell's death.

The individual has not yet been identified. State Police say the investigation is ongoing.

US Minerals Cited For Violations At Its Coffeen Facility

(Coffeen)--U.S. Minerals has been cited by the Federal Government for willfully exposing workers to dangerous levels of hazardous dust without providing protective breathing equipment. According to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Minerals was cited for violations at its facility in Coffeen. Minerals Vice President Jason Vukas says the company disagrees with the classification of the dust, and plans to contest the citations.

OSHA has issued 28 citations with proposed penalties of over three hundred thousand dollars. OSHA says inhalation of the type of dust produced at the facility can cause debilitating lung disease.

Regulators Monitoring Pipeline Leak Near Livingston

(Livingston)--Federal and State regulators are monitoring the cleanup of a pipeline leak that spilled close to one hundred gallons of gasoline in Madison County. According to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, some of the spill that was reported on December 2nd near Livingston found its way into a small farm pond and tributary of Silver Creek.

The agency says the eight inch pipe, owned by Buckeye Partners, LP. was less than two feet below the surface and may have been damaged by farming. Cleanup crews contained the leak, and gasoline was siphoned from the pond. Illinois EPA says test of nearby well showed no contamination.

Montgomery County Board Reorganizes

(Hillsboro)--The Montgomery County Board held a special meeting Monday morning to install new and reelected members. Five new members were sworn in, they include: Joe Gasparich, Nicki Bishop, Dennis Williams, Scott Merano, and Chuck Graden.

The Montgomery County Board also reappointed Mike Plunkett to serve as the Board Chairman. During his address to the Board, Plunkett said that the board has new opportunities never before seen in the county. Plunkett then appointed Terry Bone to be the Board's new Vice Chairman. Bone will continue to serve as the counties Building and Grounds Committee Chairman.

Other appointments made include: Ron Deabenderfer will be chairman of the Economic Development Committee; Jim Moore will chair the EMA-Ambulance Committee; Bob Durbin will chair the Health Welfare and Elections Committee; Bonnie Branum will continue as chair of the Road and Bridge Committee; and George Blankenship will chair the Finance Committee.
