Rural Palmyra Shooting

Some details about a reported shooting incident Friday night east of Palmyra have been released by the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office.

According to Macoupin County Sheriff Don Albrecht, deputies responded to reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound at a residence in the 10,000 block of Blooming Grove Road around 6:00pm.

Initially, a call came in to the Macoupin County 911 call center from a relative of the shooting victim who lives in the same general area.

The victim a 61 year old male initially stated to a relative that he was shot by an intruder at his residence. He did not call for assistance and attempted to drive to the relative's home for help.In the process, the victim ran his vehicle off the roadway a short distance from the relatives home and proceeded to walk to the home.

He was treated at the scene by Northwestern Ambulance Service and Dunn's Ambulance Service and was later flown by ARCH helicopter to St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

The sheriff indicated that a firearm was removed from the victim's vehilce.

The incident remains under investigation by the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police Crime Scene personnel.

The man's name has not been released by authorities.
