Cooling Centers To Be Opened As Excessive Heat Hits The Area

(Hillsboro)--Public Health officials say it's time to take extra precautions with a scorching heat wave predicted this week. County public health departments say their tips include limiting time outdoors, drinking plenty of water, and wearing loose fitting clothes. Health officials are also urging the public to keep an eye on pets, infants, and the elderly.

The National Weather Service says a high pressure system will bring hot and humid conditions lasting through most of the week. There are heat advisories, warnings and watches for most of the state. Temperatures are expected to reach in the 100's in some parts of the state.

Locally the Montgomery County Emergency Management Services announced that during this warning period, residents in need can contact the Operation Cool Down toll free hotline number at 877-532-9911 to gain access to an air condidtioned facility. According to EMA Director Diana Holmes the cooling centers will be opened on an as needed basis during the excessive heat period.
