(Litchfield)--A 32 year old Illinois State Police Trooper was killed Monday morning following a traffic stop in the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 between the Carlinville and Raymond exits.

According to Illinois State Police, 32 year old Trooper Kyle Deatherage was killed when he was struck by a semi on Interstate 55 while performing a traffic stop. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deatherage, a motorcycle trooper, had been a member of the Illinois State Police since May of 2009. The accident is under investigation.
