Remains found in February near Royal Lakes reportedly are the remains of a missing Royal Lakes man.

Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl and Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta have confirmed the remains found in a creek bed in rural Bunker Hill on February 15, 2016 ar those of Joseph Wilson of Mulberry Avenue. Wilson was first reported missing by family members on April 2, 2012.

When the remains were found, the Major Case Squad was called in and following their investigation the remains were DNA tested to see if there was a match.

A homicide investigation is ongoing.
