Bourne Co-sponsors Gun Suppressor Legislation

State Representative Avery Bourne has co-sponsored legislation to remove the prohibition on the use of gun suppressors. Bourne says the legislation was brought forth in an effort to protect hunters from hearing damage.

The legislation states that a suppressor, allowed under the National Firearms Act, can be used on a handgun when on a shooting range. While hunting, an individual would be able to use the suppressor on long arm guns.

Bourne says that the issue is one that she's heard from a number of constituents. She also said that misconceptions about suppressors are common, and that they don't make firearms silent, but rather muffle the sound in large part to prevent hearing loss and noise pollution.

The legislation passed the Illinois House but has not yet been called in the Senate.
