A 25-year old woman is dead after an accident occurred on Route 48 in Christian County on Friday afternoon.

According to the state police, a vehicle driven by a 27-year old man from Normal was traveling north on Route 48 when he turned into the southbound lanes and struck a vehicle, being driven by a 28-year old Taylorville man. The passenger of the vehicle that was struck, a 25-year old female whose identity has not been released, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle she was in was taken to a local hospital for injuries, while the driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to a hospital.

Sutton Ambulance, Dunn's Ambulance and Arch Air Medical Services all assisted at the scene.
