Hillsboro Council Addresses Time off for Supervisors

The Hillsboro City Council adopted resolution 2017-01 at their meeting Tuesday evening, which addresses scheduled time off for department supervisors.

According to Mayor Brian Sullivan, there was nothing in writing that kept supervisors and deputy supervisors from taking scheduled time off at the same time. The resolution that was adopted makes it so a supervisor and deputy supervisor of the same deparment with the city may no longer take scheduled time off that overlaps with each other.

Another resolution the council adopted provided a change of control to the cable franchise. Mayor Sullivan informed the council that Cable One has agreed to purchase New Wave Communications, and the franchise agreement the city has with New Wave would automatically transfer unless the council rejected it, but the council unanimously approved the transfer.

The matter of new water meters for the city was also discussed during the meeting. Don Downs, Commissioner fo Streets and Public Improvement, originally believed the city would need to purchase 46 new meters. Additional research showed that only 40 meters were needed at a total cost of $7880. Downs had planned for a total cost closer to $9000.

Mayor Sullivan said water prices would not have to increase to help pay for the cost of the meters since the department had enough money.

The next Hillsboro City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 28, at 7 p.m.
