A Palmer man was arrested last Thursday after a one-month-old baby was taken to a hospital in St. Louis with severe head injuries.

Darrel Sanders, 19, was charged with Aggravated Battery to a child, which is a Class X felony. On Thursday, Sanders took his one-month-old daughter to Taylorville Memorial Hospital with severe head injuries. The infant was then transferred to a children's hospital in St. Louis, where she remains in critical condition.

Taylorville Hospital personnel then contacted the Christian County Sheriff's office. An investigation revealed that the baby was injured some time between February 15th and 18th at a Palmer residence where both Sanders and the baby's mother, Shawnee Harris, reside.

Sanders' bond was set at $1 million. His next court date was scheduled for Monday.
