Nokomis Suffers Major Water Line Break

Nokomis residents should be prepared to be without water for several hours today after the city experienced a major water line break this morning.

According to Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Coordinator Joe Gasparich, the break occurred on the main line between the water treatment facility and the water tower. Public works officials are working to repair the break, but it may be late afternoon or early evening before the break will be repaired and water service to Nokomis and Coalton can be restored.

Residents may be able to get water from their water heater if needed. This can be a 15 to 40 gallon supply, depending on the size of the tank. Most water heaters have a drain valve near the bottom of the tank where water can be drained. This water would be suitable for things such as flushing toilets or hand washing.

Gasparich asks residents to refrain from calling city hall for information, as the staff is currently very busy working with city workers to help get needed supplies for water system repairs.
