Man Arrested After I-255 Shooting

A man whose description matched that of a homicide suspect was arrested on Sunday after allegedly shooting at a pair of Illinois State Police Troopers on Interstate 255.

Troopers arrived at the scene near milepost 21 after 6:03 a.m. and saw a man walking in the median. According to trooper Joshua Korando, the man matched the description of a subject that was possibly involved in a homicide in East St. Louis earlier in the morning.

As troopers arrived at the scene, Korando said the subject opened fire. After one of the troopers shot back, the man fled into a wooded area west of the interstate. No one was injured during the exchange of gunfire. At 10:54 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody a half mile north of the highway without further incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

The suspect has been identified, however no formal charges have been filed pending investigation, Korando said. The stretch of interstate between Collinsville Road and I-64 was shut down for several hours. The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and East St. Louis Police Department.
