Litchfield Fire Dept. Extinguishes House Fire on Sallee St.


Litchfield Firefighters were dispatched to a residential fire at 9:33 a.m. on East Sallee Street on Monday, Dec. 2.

The first responding unit arrived to find light white smoke coming out of the eaves on the west side of the home, with black smoke pushing out the doorway on the southeast side. Upon entering the home, firefighters encountered the fire throughout the entire room. According to a release from the department, they were able to extinguish it without any difficulties. No injuries were reported.

The home sustained moderate to severe smoke damage to the walls, ceilings and contents of the main living area, with severe smoke, heat and fire damage to the east end of the home, which was identified as a converted garage. The incident was declared under control by 9:55 p.m.

Fifteen personnel responded to the scene. The incident remains under investigation. The Fire Department reminds everyone to have working smoke detectors in their homes and to have an escape plan, practice it and be prepared to use it in the event of any fire.
