Washington, DC (8/26/2020)-- U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill) today announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) has awarded Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) grants totaling $812,854.20 to several fire departments in Illinois' 13th Congressional District. The grants will be used to purchase items such as Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) packs amongst other things depending on the department. The receiving organizations and amounts are as follows:

Champaign Fire Department: $235,000.00
Medora Community Fire Protection District: $104,571.43
Taylor Springs Fire Department: $40,000.00
University of Illinois: $433,282.77

Witt Volunteer Fire Dept received a Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) grant in the amount of $73,463.00. The grant is for the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. The objective of the program is to create a more favorable working environment for volunteer firefighters to encourage current volunteers to continue with their volunteerism as well as entice new volunteers to join.

Im proud to support these grants in Congress because they are critical to helping our fire departments protect themselves and the citizens they serve. This is especially true amongst the Coronavirus pandemic. Taxpayers in these communities pay into the system and its important they see the benefits," said Davis.
