USDOT Truck Driver Training Grant Goes to Lincoln Land

Springfield, IL (8/24/2020) -- U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill) today announced the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has awarded a FY 2020 Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant to Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) in the amount of $81,797. The grant will be used to enroll veterans in LLCC's Truck Driver Training program that results in graduates earning a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Interested veterans should call LLCC's Truck Driver Training program at 217-786-2565 to learn more.

Given the demand for truck drivers it's great to see these federal dollars being invested to train veterans to be future drivers," said Davis. "The CDL program at Lincoln Land Community College is a great example of the role community colleges play in developing a skilled workforce. As the Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, I continue to advocate for solutions that bolster career and technical education."

"Were delighted that this grant will assist veterans, active military and members of their immediate families to obtain free, short-term training at LLCC to a prepare for a great career in truck driving," said Chairman Wayne Rosenthal, Lincoln Land Community College Board of Trustees. "Not only will their tuition and fees be paid but theyll also receive job placement assistance. Qualified drivers are in high demand in our area and nationwide with starting salaries ranging from $35,000 to $75,000. Our students learn the skills to pass their commercial drivers license exam and become safe, professional drivers."
