University of Illinois Extension of Macoupin County will be offering the state mandated Certified Food Protection Managers class and exam. The Illinois Department of Public Health Food Sanitation Code (section 750.540) requires food service establishments to be under the operational supervision of a certified food protection manager during hours of operation. Certificates need renewal every five years and class attendance is mandatory to sit for the exam. 

  

The two-day course will take place on July 23 and 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Macoupin County Extension in Carlinville, located at 60 Carlinville Plaza. Participants must attend both classes. The certification exam will take place on the second day of classes. Bring a valid photo ID to the exam. 

  

This class is taught by Extension Nutrition and Wellness Educator, Lisa Peterson and provides the minimum classroom work to prepare for the National Certification Examination. Topics include foodborne illnesses, safe food handling, cooking and storage, employee health and hygiene, facility safety and maintenance, cleaning and sanitization. 

 

The fee for this course is $100 and includes the textbook, class materials, and exam.  Registration is required and classes fill quickly due to limited registrations. Imagine Hillsboro is getting set to host its free Back to School store at the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church located at 1400 Seymour Ave.  The store will operate  Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  
This event is free to Hillsboro students grades kindergarten through twelve. Students must reside in the district.

“Back 2 Mac”, an effort to provide school supplies for at need students in North Mac Schools, will be held on Saturday, August 8th from 9-11 AM at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Virden. It will be a drive-through pick-up event. 
 
North Mac parents who are needing help with the purchase of supplies are encouraged to sign-up their students now by clicking a link on the North Mac or Girard Chamber of Commerce websites.  Or you can also pick up a registration form from the “Back 2 Mac” mailbox located in front of Steve O'Dell's Country Companies Insurance office on the north side of the Virden Square. Once completed, you can drop the form in the mailbox. Deadline to sign up is Friday, July 31st.
