Macoupin County Property Tax Bills

Macoupin County Treasurer Anne Boehm states that the 2010 real estate tax bills will be mailed on or before Friday July 15th. Aprroximately 38,000 tax bills are being prepared for mailing with a total current tax extension of $39,308,667.64.

The first installment due date has been set for Monday, August 15th, and the second installment due date will be Thursday, September 15th. Penalties will be charged after the due dates. The treasurer advises every taxpayer to read the information on the back of the tax bill. The information may answer questions that you have regarding your taxes; however, if you have other questions or concerns contact the treasurer's office by calling 217-854-4014 ext 709.

If a taxpayer does not get his/her tax bill(s) they should contact the treasurer's office, failure to receive a tax bill or receiving one late for any reason will not relieve a taxpayer from paying taxes or any late penalties accrued.

One Person Killed In An ATV Accident Near Staunton

(Worden)--One person was killed in an ATV accident Saturday evening in Worden. According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, two males were riding seperate three wheel ATV's on Wiseman Road when the accident occurred at the entrance of the Madison County Bike Trail. 38 year old Brandon Daniel crashed his ATV into a pole entering the bike trial. He was thrown from his ATV and into the roadway.

Emergency responders from the Worden Fire Department and Staunton EMS assisted in the accident. Daniel was pronounced dead by the Madison County Coroner's Office. The accident remains under investigation.

Bunker Hill Man Seriously Injured In A Head On Accident In Madison County

(Collinsville)--One person suffered life threatening injuries following a two vehicle accident Tuesday morning on Interstate 255. According to Illinois State Police, a vehicle driven by 25 year old Justin Butler of Bunker Hill turned the wrong way onto the exit ramp from Interstate 255 and Gateway Commerce.

Butler started to travel northbound on the interstate in the southbound lanes, and struck a Madison County transit bus driven by 79 year old Edward Smith of Godfrey head on.

Butler was airlifted by ARCH helicopter to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. Smith was taken by ambulance to Anderson Hospital in Maryville for treatment of minor injuries. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Double Fatal in Greene County

Two people were killed Saturday in a two vehicle accident north of Greenfield.

According to Illinois State Police, 39 year old Julie Cambridge of Murrayville was traveling southbound on U.S. 267 in a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country when she lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement at noon. The vehicle traveled into the path of a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country and was struck in the passenger side. After impact the Cambridge vehicle overturned and the other vehicle left the road and went down an embankment before coming to rest against some trees.

Julie Cambridge and a passenger in her vehicle, 40 year old Brian Cambridge of Murrayville were pronounced dead at the scene by the Greene County Coroner.

Two other passengers in the Cambridge vehicle, 15 year old Sarah Cambridge and 5 year old Skylar Cambridge sustained serious injuries. Sarah was transported to St. John's Hospital in Springfield and Skylar was transported to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis.

The driver of the other Chrysler, 26 year old Christopher Wallace of Canton sustained serious injuries and was taken to Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville.

Two children in the Wallace vehicle, 5 year old Benjamin Wilson of Canton and 1 year old Alexa Wallace of Canton were also transported to hospitals. Benjamin was taken to St. John's Hospital and Alexa was taken to Cardinal Glennon Hospital.

Boating Accident on Lake Lou Yeager Leaves Schram City Man Dead

A boating accident left a Schram City man dead on Saturday. According to Litchfield Police 53 year old Granville Jack Floyd of Schram City was near the spillway on Lake Lou Yeager along with 47 year old Ernest Smith of Litchfield. The two were fishing along the dam and spillway area when heavy rainfall from the night before pulled the boat to the spillway. As the boat began to drop over the spillway Floyd reportedly jumped, Smith stayed in the boat and rode it to the bottom of the spillway. Smith was able to grab a lifejacket and swim to shore.
Members of the Litchfield Fire Department began combing the downstream area and found Floyd 300 yards from the spillway. A Litchfield Fire Department Dive Team swimmer pulled Floyd to the shoreline where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Armed Robbery In Farmersville

(Hillsboro)--The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is seeking information regarding an armed robbery at Jumpin Jimmy's in Farmersville. Reportedly on Thursday, a man entered the station and demanded money. He is described at 5 foot 8 white male wearing a dark hoodie sweatshirt and camo. shorts. No one was injured in the incident.

Carlinville Man Dies in Accident

A Carlinville man was killed Saturday morning in a roll over accident near Carlinville.

According to the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office, 21 year old Dustin Hainsfurther was westbound on Moore Cemetery Road when he lost control of the 2003 Nissan that he was driving around 2:00am. The vehicle traveled off of the road, rolled an unknown number of times and the driver was ejected before the vehicle came to rest on its passenger side.

Brad Targhetta, Macoupin County Coroner, pronounced Hainsfurther dead at the scene at 4:00am.
