SOC Raises Sixty Thousand Dollars

(Hillsboro)--Final totals for this years Stamp Out Cancer were released Wednesday night. The Stamp Out Cancer Committee presented a check to the Montgomery County Cancer Association in the amount of sixty thousand dollars.

Including this years totals, the Stamp Out Cancer Committee raised over two hundred thousand dollars for the Montgomery County Cancer Association.

Another Huge Year For Stamp Out Cancer

(Hillsboro)--The fifth annual Stamp Out Cancer last Saturday was another huge success for the Stamp Out Cancer Committee and to the Montgomery County Cancer Association. According to figures released, the five couples dancing this year raised over thirty six thousand dollars for the Montgomery County Cancer Association.

The winning team this year was the dance couple of Heather Greenwood and Nathan Clinard. The winning couple raised over twelve thousand dollars for the cause. The couple of Dillon Clark and Elizabeth Kelley of Litchfield were honored with the best dancers of the night.

Final figures for this year's Stamp Out Cancer will be released at a later date.

Missouri Man Dies In A House Fire

(Sorento)--A 65 year old Calverton Park, Missouri man died Sunday morning in a house fire in Sorento. According to the Bond County Coroner's Office, a resident of the home in the six hundred block of Wabash Road was awoken to the smell of smoke. Following an investigation, intense smoke was found in the kitchen area, where 65 year old Terrance Corbett was attempting to put out the fire.

The resident, whose name was not released, made it out of the house via a window. Corbett was unable to make it out. He was pronounced dead by the Bond County Coroner's Office. The Shoal Creek, Greenville, and New Douglas Fire Departments assisted with the fire.

The incident remains under investigation.

Taylorville Man Killed In Accident

(Taylorville)--A Taylorville man was killed in a single vehicle accident Thursday night. The unidentified 45 year old was southbound on Route 48, south of the Nokomis blacktop, when the pick up truck went off the road, striking a tree. The pick up burst into flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner's Office.

Criminal Activity Down In Mont. County

(Hillsboro)--Montgomery County Circuit Clerk Holly Lemons announced that totals for criminal activity in Montgomery County. According to the Clerk's Office, criminal activity continued to decline in 2014. According to figures, 181 felony cases were filed, down 6 percent from the previous year; 422 criminal misdemeaner cases were filed in 2014, down 15 percent from the previous year.

In other figures, DUI's were down 14 percent from 2013; and conservation violations were down 25 percent from the previous year.

Gillespie Childs Death Under Investigation

(Gillespie)--Gillespie Police, and Illinois State Police are investigating the death of a three year old boy as a possible case of child abuse. The toddler died on Monday at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.

Authorities say the boy was at his home with a caretaker on Saturday when paramedics responded to a call about child have a seizure. The boy's mother was at work at the time of the incident.

Shooting Death in Woodburn

(Woodburn)--The Macoupin County Sheriff's Deputies along with the Bunker Hill , and Illinois State Police were called to a shooting Thursday morning in Woodburn. According to the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office, authorities were called about an individual who had been shot. Upon arrival, the body of 34 year old Cody Adams of Woodburn was found inside. Adams died from a suspected gunshot wound.

According to the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office, homeowners at the residence stated that an intruder entered the home with a gun. An altercation occurred between Adams and two other individuals in the home.

The incident in under investigation by the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police, and the Bunker Hill Police Department.
