Detainee Found Dead Sunday Morning

(Hillsboro)--The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, State Police, and Montgomery County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a detainee found Sunday morning.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies found the body of 46 year old John Zupsich of Springfield unresponsive in the Montgomery County Jail. Zupsich was pronounced dead at the scene by Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus.

Illinois State Police and Crime Scene investigation were called in to assist with the investigation. Preliminary autopsy results indicated that Zupsich died from natural causes.

Missing Coffeen Man Found Dead

(Coffeen)--On Wednesday afternoon, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office received a call about a man who was found dead. Sheriff's Deputies, the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, and State Police responded to the area, about two and a half miles southwest of Coffeen.

Upon arrival, the body of 73 year old Howard Beard of Coffeen was found. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus.

Beard was reported missing by his family on January 16th. An investigation is ongoing by the Montgomery County Sheriff's and Coroner's Office.

Litchfield Woman Charged With Financial Exploitation

(Litchfield)--A 53 year old Litchfield woman was arrested and faces charges of forgery, and financial exploitation of an elderly person. According to Litchfield Police, Theresa Thomas was taken into custody as a result of an investigation that began in January.

The Police Department was advised that an 89 year old Litchfield woman was missing around twenty thousand dollars. Thomas, an in home care provider who was authorized to write checks for the victim, is alleged to have written checks to herself as well.

Thomas is charged with making an electronic transfer to a checking account where more checks were written without the victims knowledge. She is also been charged with taking the victim to withdraw resources from a safe deposit box, where some of the proceeds were used to pay for a pre paid funeral. The remainder of those funds were then deposited into a checking account, where additional checks were written.

An investigation is ongoing by the Litchfield Police Department.

Gillespie Man Charged in Infant Death

A Gillespie man faces a manslaughter charge following the death of an infant.

According to Illinois State Police, 27 year old Richard C. Morgan Jr. was charged on Monday with one count of Involuntary Manslaughter by the Macoupin County State's Attorney's Office.

Allegedly, Morgan caused the death of his three month old daughter while in their Gillespie residence on November 23, 2011.

Morgan is currently held in the Macoupin County Jail. Bail has been set at $100,000.

Illinois State Police and the Gillespie Police Department investigated the incident.

Carlinville Man Injured in Accident

A Carlinville man was injured in a single vehicle accident Monday morning south of Shipman.

According to the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office, 37 year old Douglas Horton was driving a 2011 Ford Fiesta south on Shipman Cutoff Road when he failed to stop in time for the T-intersection with the Brighton-Bunker Hill Road at 6:38am The vehicle skidded across the intersection, struck an embankment and hit a utility pole.

Horton was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton for treatment of incapacitating injuries.

The accident caused a power outage in the area.

Horton was issued a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Authorities Respond To An Apparent Suicide in Taylor Springs

(Taylor Springs)--The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and Hillsboro Police Department responded to an apparent suicide Monday morning in Taylor Springs. According to the Sheriff's Office, 911 received a report that someone had shot himself.

The Sheriff's Department, and Hillsboro Police responded to a residence in the five hundred block of Hillsboro Street in Taylor Springs, where the body of 33 year old Curt Adams was discovered.

Adams was pronounced dead at the scene by Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus. The incident remains under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff's and Coroner's Office.
