Two People Seriously Injured In A Head On Accident On Route 127

(Hillsboro)--Two people were seriously injured in a head on accident Wednesday evening on Route 127, near Waresgrove Avenue. According to State Police, a vehicle driven by 34 year old Trisha Ziegler of Nokomis was northbound on Route 127. Another vehicle driven by 53 year old Jammie Hobbs of Springfield was southbound.

Reportedly Ziegler failed to negotiate a curve, and lost control of her vehicle. Ziegler overcorrected has she attempted to get back onto the road, striking Hobbs vehicle head on.

Hobbs was removed from the vehicle by other motorists, before fire consumed and destroyed her vehicle. Both Hobbs and Ziegler were taken by ambulance to Hillsboro Area Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Ziegler was cited with improper lane usage.

Sheriff's Office Investigating A Hit And Run Accident Near Litchfield

(Hillsboro)--The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is seeking information regarding a hit and run accident that happened Monday evening north of Litchfield. According to the Sheriff's Office, the incident happened Monday evening at 7:15 on North 16th Avenue near Stratmeyer Trial.

A family was walking westbound on North 16th Avenue when a full size four door car struck the family from behind. Reportedly an unidentified man was pushing a nine month old infant in a stroller when the accident happened. Both individuals suffered serious injuries. The mother of the infant was also injured in the accident.

The reported vehicle suffered damage to the passenger side, which included a broken passenger side mirror. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office, or the Macoupin Montgomery County Crimestoppers at 1-800-352-0136.

One Person Injured In A Roofing Accident In Litchfield

(Litchfield)--Authorities are investigating a roofing accident that happened Monday afternoon at the Quality Inn in Litchfield. According to Litchfield Police, personel were dispatched to the hotel around 4pm. Reportedly a construction worker had fallen off the roof.

Upon arrival, emergency personel discovered 47 year old Mahesh Panchel of Urbana was working on the hotel as part of a crew from Decatur, installing a new metal roof on the building. Reportedly Panchel lost his footing, and slid to the edge of the roof, falling over three stories to the ground.

Panchal suffered severe traumatic injuries as a result of the fall, and was taken by ARCH Helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield for treatment. The incident remains under investigation.

Gillespie Murder Plea

Two individuals have been sentenced on murder charges concerning a 2011 murder in Gillespie.

According to Macoupin County State's Attorney Jennifer Watson, Judge Patrick Londrigan accepted 20 year old Cody R. McGuire's guilty plea on 1st degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in the 2011 shooting death of Willie Jason Walton in Gillespie. The Judge also accepted the guilty plea of co-defendant 20 year old David P. McGuire on counts of 2nd degree murder and aggravated battery.

Under the plea, Cody R. McGuire was sentenced to 33 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for 1st degree murder. Illinois law requires all defendants convicted of 1st degree murder to serve 100% of the sentence. David P. McGuire received 17 years on 2nd degree murder.

Hillsboro Chamber Announces Award Winners

(Hillsboro)--The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce announced the winners for their upcoming Business and Industry Awards Banquet. Being honored as Business of the Year is Hillsboro Area Hospital. The Chamber's Achievement Award will be awarded to Montgomery County PAWS Care and "Stamp Out Cancer". The Make Over Award will be awarded to CNB Bank and Trust and Style Studio. The Hillsboro Chamber will also be honoring Mike Ryan as their Member of the Year.

The annual Business and Industry Awards Banquet will be held Thursday, September 27th at the Hillsboro Moose Lodge.

Macoupin Bowling Tournament

Bowlers are encouraged to participate in the Second Annual Macoupin County Agriculture Education Foundation Bowling tournament to be held on Saturday, August 25, at Bowlero Lanes in Carlinville. This fundraising event is hosted by the MCAE Foundation to support county agriculture scholarships and the Macoupin County Agricultural Literacy Program.

The evening begins a 5pm with resgistration and a social hour. Bowling starts at 6pm. The evening will also feature a silent auction and prizes.

The 9 pin No-Tap tournament has room for 28 teams. Entry fee for a 4 person team is $80.00 (Fee includes 3 games, light snacks and non-alcoholic fountain drinks). Carlinville Man Dies Near Palmyra

A Carlinville man is dead following a single vehicle accident Sunday morning southeast of Palmyra.

Twenty-Eight year old Justin Harbaugh was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:46am by Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta.

According to the Macoupin County Sheriff's office, Harbaugh was northbound on Sportsman Club Road when he swerved to miss a deer in the roadway around 4:30am and his 1994 Chevy 1500 went out of control, struck an embankment and rolled over onto the drivers. Harbaugh was partially ejected and pinned under the truck.

Three passengers in the vehicle were not injured.

One Person Seriously Injured In A Single Vehicle Accident Near Farmersville

(Farmersville)--One person was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident Saturday evening on Interstate 55, south of Farmersville. According to State Police, a vehicle driven by 28 year old Luis Rodriguez of Mexico was southbound on the Interstate, when he allegedly passed out behind the wheel.

According to witnesses, Rodriguez was shaking behind the wheel, suffering from an apparent seizure. His vehicle went across the southbound lanes, through the median, and into the northbound lanes.

Rodriguez then drove back into the median, where the vehicle came to rest. Rodriguez was taken by Raymond-Harvel ambulance to St. Francis Hosptial for treatment. No citations were issued in the accident.

Taylorville Man Killed And Five Other Injured Following An Accident Near Assumption

(Dunkel)--One person is dead and five others are injured after a child care center van and a semi truck collided. Authorities says the four students and two workers from Kemmerer Village were heading south on County Road 2500 east Friday morning in eastern Christian County.

The semi was going westbound on County Road 800 North when the vehicles crashed at an intersection without stop signs, about four miles south of Assumption.

40 year old Daniel Kennell of Taylorville was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner's Office. Authorities says three people with serious injuries were flown to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield and two others went to Pana Community Hospital.

Interstate 55 Shut Down As A Result Of A Bus Accident

(Litchfield)--Authorities are investigating a double decker bus accident that killed at least one person, and injuring several. According to Illinois State Police, the megabus was trasporting 65 people from Chicago to St. Louis when the bus crashed into a concrete bridge pillar along Interstate 55, north of Litchfield.

According to Captain Scott Compton, half of the 65 passengers were injured. Compton says 12 people received serious injuries, with 5 to 10 people suffering critical injuries.

One person, 24 year old Aditi Avhad of India, was killed as a result of the accident. The cause of the accident is under investigation. Interstate 55 was shut down as a result of the accident.
