Three People Injured In A Two Vehicle Accident on Route 16

(Hillsboro)--Three people were injured in a two vehicle accident Friday afternoon on Route 16 at the Butler T intersection. According to State Police, a vehicle driven by 25 year old Sandra Boyd of Taylor Springs was east on Route 16 approach the Butler T. Another vehicle driven by 65 year old James Schanzle of Carmi was south on Route 127.

Reportedly Schanzle did not see Boyd's vehicle, striking it on the drivers side. Boyd and passengers 36 year old Carolyn Boyd of Hillsboro, and 35 year old Tammy Ballard of White Hall were taken to Hillsboro Area Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Schanzle was cited with failure to yield.

Highland Man Cited In Monday's Bus Accident

(Litchfield)--A 66 year old Highland man has been cited in Monday afternoon's school bus accident near Litchfield. According to State Police, Henry Jaeger has been cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Jaeger was southbound on Interstate 55 when he struck a tractor trailer driven by 54 year old Gerald Rees of Arkansas. The school bus had forty one people on the bus at the time of the accident, with thirty three of those being students.

Reportedly the bus was heading back to Grantfork Upper Elementary School in Highland following a field trip to the state capitol.

Eleven students were injured in the accident, with one student being taken to a St. Louis hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Jaeger was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

Interstate 55 was shut down for several hours as a result of the accident, which remains under investigation.

School Bus Crash Near Litchfield on I55

According to Illinois State Police:
At 4:34 PM this afternoon, a bus carrying 33 students and driver was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 55 on the southbound lane near milepost 57. The school bus rear ended a semi-truck that had stopped/slowed for a construction zone traffic. Ten injured people, including the bus driver, were transported from the scene to either St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield and Hillsboro Area Hospital. One student was airlifted by Arch helicopter to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis. The uninjured students were transported back to Grant Fork School.
Ambulances from the following departments and agencies were dispatched to the scene: Litchfield Fire Department, Raymond/Harvel Ambulance Service, Gillespie Fire Department, Hillsboro Area Ambulance Service, Dunns Ambulance Service in Carlinville, Nokomis/Witt Area Ambulance Service, Farmersville Ambulance Service, and Staunton Fire Department.
The following Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene: Litchfield Fire Department, Raymond/Harvel Fire Department, and Mt. Olive Fire Department.
Due to crash investigation I-55 Southbound from exit 60 to exit 52 (Litchfield) will be closed for and extended period.

Girard Man Killed In A Motorcycle Accident Near Farmersville

(Farmersville)--A Girard man was killed in a motorcycle accident Wednesday morning near Farmersville. According to State Police, a motorcycle driven by 57 year old Lee Edwards was eastbound on Mine Avenue over the Interstate. Reportedly Edwards struck the curb of the center median.

The motorcycle then went onto the median, slidding across the concrete. The motorcyle then overturned as it came back onto the road, ejecting Edwards.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.
