Model A Day

An opportunity to get a taste of the 1920s takes place this weekend in Nokomis. The 7th Model A Days is an international event featuring restored and maintained Model A Ford cars. Event Coordinator Nate Ruppert says Model A Day started in 2007.

"(We) try to have this every year where all the Model As from the area can come together and congregate and have people come out and see the cars, and talk to the drivers and learn a little bit about the history of the 1928 through the 1931 Model As."

The event on Saturday features a fashion show at 2pm with the cars and 1920s and 30s clothing. Ruppert says the event offers the opportunity to see cars still on the road from that era.

"These cars from yesterday, a lot of them (are) restored back to the original. It's easy to get parts, it's a fun hobby and it's just kind of a neat experience to go down the road at 45 miles an hour and enjoy some of the times that maybe your great grandparents might have (had)."

Model A Day takes place from 1 to 3pm on Saturday at Fred B. Johnson Park in Nokomis. For more information, contact Nate Ruppert at 563-7357.Thomack 9/15/15

A Grace Filled Journey 5K run and one mile walk on Saturday raised over $23,000 to benefit research into INAD. Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy or INAD is a rare genetic disorder that four-year-old Grace Herschelman has. The 5K on Saturday in Hillsboro was just one of many events that has taken place in the area to raise funds since Grace was diagnosed with INAD last November. According to Grace's mother, Mary Herschelman, over 750 runners participated in the fun run in Hillsboro or "virtually" including people from 22 states and five countries outside the U.S.
Mary says another weekend event for them included celebrating Grace's fourth birthday. More on the 5K can be found on A Grace Filled Journey blog: A Grace Filled Journey 5KThomack 9/7/15
