Four People Arrested Following Investigation

(Hillsboro)--Four people face various drug related charges following their arrest Wednesday afternoon in Schram City and Butler. Accoridng to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the arrests were a result of a three month investigation by the South Central Illinois Drug Task Force.

A traffic stop on Miller Avenue in Schram City resulted in the arrest of 30 year old Paul Lovins Jr. of Butler on a warrant and other charges. Lovins was wanted for the delivery of a controlled substance. During the search of the vehicle, suspected cocaine belonging to Lovins was seized. He was also charged with possession of cocaine. The driver of the vehicle, 42 year old Eric Butler of Hillsboro, was also taken into custody for the possession of a controlled substance.

Sheriff's Deputies and the South Central Illinois Drug Task Force also conducted a search of the residence of Lovins and 41 year old Paul Kampmann of Butler. The searches resulted to additional arrests and the seizure of over fifteen grams of cocaine, cannabis, over one thousand dollars in cash, video surveillance equipment, and a large screen television.

41 year old Paul Kampmann was taken into custody for calculated drug conspiracy, possession of cocaine over fifteen grams, and possession of cannabis of more than ten grams but less than thirty.

23 year old Amber Jones, also from Butler, was arrested and charged with calculated criminal conspiracy, criminal fortification of a building, and child endangerment.

All four are in the custody at the Montgomery County Jail pending formal charges.

Two People Killed In An Accident On Old Quarry Trail

(Litchfield)--Two people were killed and one person injured in a single vehicle accident Saturday morning on the Old Quarry Trail, east of Old Litchfield Trail. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the departments communications division received a call about the accident around 1:35 Saturday morning.

Sheriff's Deputies along with Litchfield Fire and Rescue responded to the accident. Upon arrival, 21 year old Clayton Owens and 18 year old Cody DeWitt, both from Litchfield, were found inside a 2000 Ford Mustang. They were pronounced dead at the scene by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.

The driver of the vehicle, 19 year old Matthew Gray, was taken to St. John's Hospital in Springfield for treatment. All three individuals had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation.

Kassebaum Appointed To Be The New Regional Superintendent Of Schools

(Taylorville)--The Christian and Montgomery County Boards have appointed Marchelle Kassebaum to be the new Regional Superintendent of Schools for Christian and Montgomery County. Kassebaum was sworn in Tueday evening.

She is currently a fourth grade teacher at Russell Elementary School in Litchfield. She is also director of Litchfield's Summer Gifted Academy which serves students throughout the state.

Kassebaum has also been recognized for her service to local veterans. She was given the Governor's Award in recognition of her outstanding support of veterans, and was named Teacher of the Year by the Illinois VFW.

Her first day will be on January 1st.

Panhandle Board of Education Hires Co Superintendents

(Raymond)--Co Superintendents were hired during the Panhandle Board of Education meeting Monday night. Following a closed session, the board approved to hire Aaron Hopper and Chad Langheim as Co Superintendents for the school district for the 2012-2013 school year. Hopper is currently principal for Lincolnwood Grade School. Langheim is currently principal for the Lincolnwood Junior and Senior High School. The deal is pending certification and finalization of contract details. Both will be replacing Superintendent Connie Woods who will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Graduation Date

The Board approved to set the high school graduation date for May 18th

Temporary Ag Teacher

The Board of Education also approved to hire Josh Dodge as a temporary Ag Teacher for the high school, pending certification.

Crimestoppers Seeking Information On A Suspected Arson In Butler

(Butler)--The Macoupin Montgomery County Crimestoppers is seeking information regarding a suspected arson. According to Crimestoppers, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office received information that an unoccupied residence on Lark Trial in Butler had burned down.

The Hillsboro Fire Department also investigated the incident, which revealed eveidence of arson. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-352-0136.

21 Year Old Found Dead In Hillsboro

(Hillsboro)--On Saturday, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Telecommunications Division received a report of a subject who may be deceased. Sheriff's Deputies responded to a residence on Summit Street in Hillsboro, where the body of 21 year old Jeremy Buzick was discovered.

Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus pronounced Buzick dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing by the Montgomery County Coroner and Sheriff's Office.

Nokomis Board of Education and Teachers Union Reaches An Agreement

(Nokomis)--The Nokomis Board of Education and the Nokomis Education Association have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract. Nokomis Superintendent Scott Doerr made the announcement Wednesday afternoon. Details of the contract will be given following a ratification vote by the Nokomis Board of Education and the Nokomis Education Association.
